Italy

Italy stands for the great monumental cemeteries. In Genoa, Bologna, Brescia, Modena and Lavagna, the nineteenth century produced vast complexes of arcades, memorial halls and marble figures of remarkable craftsmanship. This is where MEMENTO began, with a first visit to the Monumental Cemetery of Staglieno in 2009.

Alongside them are places of an entirely different kind: the Fontanelle Cemetery in the tuff caves of Naples, a crypt of mummies, and a forgotten cemetery in Liguria.
